Exams FAQs

I left Holgate in 1995 where can I find my exam results from?
In the first instance contact the exams office and we will check our archive files to see if we hold any information for you. If we don’t you will need to contact the exam boards and ask for replacement certificates (what they call ‘certifying statement of achievements’).  We will be able to direct you to which exam board(s) you need to contact.  Please note, exam boards do charge a fee for this service.

I have an exam but I am ill/injured, what should I do?
Contact the exams office at the earliest opportunity to discuss options.  There may be a way to take the exam i.e. someone to write for you if you have a broken arm. If there is no way you can attend then any evidence to confirm this i.e. a letter from a parent, GP or consultant would be useful.  This will enable a request for ‘special consideration’ to be made to the exam boards.  Each application is judged on its merits and if the board approves the request a grade may still be given.

My son/daughter is in year 11 I am thinking of booking a holiday, when is a safe time?
Unfortunately no time in year 11 is safe as controlled assessments for GCSE’s and BTEC units are completed and assessed throughout the year. The exam season runs throughout May and June – with practical exams taking place prior to the start of the written exams.

What equipment is needed for exams?
A black biro pen (no other colour is acceptable and gel pens are also not to be used), pencil, ruler, rubber and a pencil sharpener make up the basic equipment needed for all exams. For some exams i.e. Maths, science, a calculator is required.  Some exams require coloured pencils.  It is important that students take note of this from their teachers while completing practice exams.

Where can I find dates for exams?
School exam timetables will be posted on the website at the earliest opportunity, usually a few months in advance. Individual student timetables will be given out via form tutors a few weeks in advance of exams giving details of start times and location of all exams.  Detials will also be posted on the two exam notice boards in school. If you need to know further in advance exam boards post provisional timetables on their websites between 6-12 months before each exam season.

What time do I need to attend for my exams?
For morning exams the start time is 9:00am. For afternoon exams the start time is 1:30pm. It is recommended that students arrive 5-10 minutes before the start time.
