On Monday 13th March as part of science week, STEM ambassadors visited The Holgate Academy to deliver an Institute of Civil Engineering (ICE) paper engineering session with groups of our students. We worked in teams to build bridges from paper alone and suspended masses from them to see which held out best. The students were a credit to the school, engaging well with the session and asking some great questions of the ambassadors. For the students considering going in to Civil Engineering, they particularly appreciated the opportunity to find out how best to get there.
The bridges all managed to support a lot of mass. The winning team managed a massive 10 kg – the ambassadors didn’t have any more to suspend!
