STEM Ambassador Visit To Holgate

Which has more DNA - Strawberries or blueberries? That was the question that members of the STEM club were trying to answer when a STEM ambassador came into school last on Wednesday July 11th to run the STEM club session.

Anne Warren, who ran the session, started out with some questions about DNA – luckily they had learned all about DNA and genes this year their science lessions so they were able to show off their knowledge.

Hagg Farm

It seemed impossible to believe that we would have any dry weather for Hagg Farm this year but we were very lucky. Twenty eight intrepid adventurers spent five days caving, climbing and clambering across the Peak District in mostly fine and dry conditions.

Julian, our course leader, was excellent on a daily basis and really encouraged and praised our pupils. He was also very impressed with all the hard work they put in on the final morning to ensure that the Centre was left in top condition for next week’s visitors.

Ballet Master Class with Joshua Ecob

On Wednesday the 11th July the dance studio doors were opened yet again to Joshua Ecob. Making the most of his 2 month break from dancing for a Serbian Ballet Company, he came back to his roots of Holgate and taught another fantastic Ballet Masterclass.

All our year 10 GCSE Dance students had the pleasure of taking part in a 3 hour masterclass and their effort throughout the session was superb! He introduced the day with a Ballet technique class, working on the Barre, in the centre and travelling sequences around the room.
