The Holgate Gallery

As many of you know, The Holgate School has been lucky enough to run an Art Gallery in Hucknall Town Centre, for the last three and a half years.
It was part of a scheme, run by Ashfield District Council, to utilise empty shop spaces in the town centre. The last few years have been difficult for traders in Hucknall, and other towns like it, and many businesses moved out, leaving behind empty, dirty and unattractive retail units.

Popular Gallery Must Close Doors

By The Hucknall Dispatch
Art Students at Hucknall’s Holgate School have lost a prominent venue in the town centre to exhibit their work.
A shop on Baker Street which was converted into The Gallery just over three years ago is being returned to retail use. Holgate took advantage of a scheme to find a positive temporary use for the empty shops and avoid them becoming boarded-up eyesores. The Baker Street shop was formerly a travel agency and closed down as a result of the recession.
