Curriculum intent

Drama is a diverse, dynamic and energetic subject that focuses on building students skills in communicating and working in groups with confidence. At key stage 3 students will experience one drama lesson every week in specialist drama studios with excellent facilities. All schemes of work are carefully planned to interleave with each other, building on skills and knowledge deeper through the years, this ultimately enriches the student’s experience of drama at The Holgate Academy.

Aims of the subject

We aim to:

  • Develop students as individuals
  • Build confidence to communicate and share ideas
  • Build skills in creativity and concentration as well as knowing how to assess
  • Gain skills such as problem solving, people management and public speaking

Key stage 4

Why study drama?

This course involves the study of not only performance based skills but also practical and personal skills which are key to any career path.
This course combines theory and practical through the elements of performance, presentation and evaluation. Students who like to perform and have enjoyed learning drama at key stage 3 are ideally suited to this subject.
