Curriculum intent

The subject aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to help them understand the physical and human world they live in and how it might change in the future.

Core principles of the subject:

‘Know it’- Students have knowledge of the world around them

‘Understand it’- Students can use their knowledge to show understanding of the world around them

‘Judge it’- Students can form their own opinions and articulate them about the world around them

‘Skill it’- Students have the skills to interpret and analyse the world around them

Why study geography?

Geography is suitable for students who have a keen desire to find out about the world around them. It revolves around real issues that are happening right now in the world. Students should enjoy asking questions and using their skills and knowledge to find answers in our rapidly changing world. This qualification is highly useful for a huge range of jobs or to lead on to further education.
