Governor name
Kate Turner
Governor role
Chair of Academy Committee and Safeguarding Link
Why did you become a governor?
I have lived in Hucknall for over 30 years and for many of these have been involved in activities that work with and support the local community. With a background in education and volunteering with ChildLine for many years, I feel that young people’s experiences in life play a vital role in their development into adulthood. School is a huge part of this, particularly how it gives opportunities and raises aspirations. I became a governor so I can help ensure young people get the best experience possible from the Academy.
How did you find out about the role?
Originally there was an opportunity to become a parent governor as advertised through the school
What do you like about the role, and how do governors make a difference?
I particularly like meeting pupils, parents and staff, understanding what matters to them and being able to feed this back to the Academy. I get to work as part of a diverse team, leading governors and working with the wider Academy Trust. Through this, governors can challenge the Academy to ensure that pupils can achieve their best possible outcomes.
I also have a specific commitment to safeguarding and being a governor allows me to be confident that the Academy has the welfare of students at the heart of everything it does.
