Why study geography?

Geography will allow you to understand and interpret our changing world, considering complexities of interactions between communities, and the role we have as global citizens. You will study elements of physical geography such as water cycles, coastal systems and hazards to the environment, together with human geography covering global systems and governance, population and the environment, and changing places. Exciting practical investigations are a crucial and interesting part of the course, with the qualification leading on to a wide range of careers and further study that could be in conservation, politics, teaching, transport and logistics.

 

What will I learn about?

  • Physical geography – you will seek to explore the meaning, causes and impacts of a number of headline issues, including: water and carbon cycles; coastal systems and landscapes; and hazards
  • Human geography – global systems and global governance; changing places; and population and the environment
  • Geographical investigations – you will investigate and collect data in the field based on a geographical issue, relating to any part of your course
