If you are moving into year 10 in September then it’s time to start thinking about your options. Students are placed on a distinct pathway that is personalised to them – it includes some compulsory subjects such as English and maths, and up to three additional subjects.
To support you in making the right choices for your future, we have put together a number of resources, which you can find in the ‘quick links’ on the right. This information should be used to make decisions about which subjects to take, and we encourage all students to use it alongside other sources of information before completing their options form.

What subjects do I have to study?
All students must study English language and literature, maths, PE, personal development, science and in some cases French. You will have the option to choose from either geography or history, and an additional two other subjects from a list of open choices listed in the options brochure.
Top tips for picking subjects
- Read the brochure and focus on courses you enjoy and excel in.
- Speak to your teachers about specific subjects.
- Do your research into careers and what you need to go into them.
- Talk to your parents, carers, family and friends about what you would like to do.
