On Thursday 19th January 2017 The Holgate Academy celebrated students’ achievement with an awards event. The Holgate Star Awards are to recognise those students who have a 100% attendance record, no lates and no minus points during the first term of the school year.
73 students and their families were invited to the event in Hillcrest Hall which was set out as an afternoon tea room. There was time for House Leaders, Senior Staff and Chair of Governors to talk to the students and their families about their accomplishments. At the start of the event students and parents were treated to refreshments and cake. This was followed by the presentation of the awards.
On Tuesday 13th December 2016 a group of students, supported by one of our sixth form students set off to perform in the DALP Creative Arts Festival, held at DALP HQ, Kelham Hall in Newark.
Every year, during the last week of the Autumn term, the 9 Academies in the DALP partnership, all join together to produce an afternoon of arts based entertainment. Each Academy produces two performance pieces (which are devised and rehearsed within the individual schools) and then all perform for one another, culminating in a giant finale, involving all students from all of the schools.
The Holgate Academy staff and students were given the opportunity to take part in Christmas Jumper Day 2016 to raise money for ‘Save the Children’ charity.
Thousands of people each year get together in their silliest Christmassy jumpers to help out those in need, and you wouldn’t believe the difference our pounds and pennies make! The money raised can help give essentials like healthcare, education, protection and food to children everywhere. Sadly, millions of children around the world die before their fifth birthday from easily preventable diseases like malaria, diarrhoea and pneumonia.
