Academy Council says farewell and thanks to Chairperson

At the meeting on Tuesday 23rd May, the Student Council said a fond farewell to their longest serving member. Chloe Allen joined the Council in 2010 as a year 7 student  and has taken an active role ever since.  For the last two years Chloe has had the role of Chairperson, leading the Council at their regular meetings. For the two years prior to that Chloe was Vice Chair. Chloe has represented Holgate at many external community events and has been part of the DALP Student Engagement Committee. Chloe played a major part in the fundraising at Holgate for Battle Batten where over £2,000 was raised for this charity. As a mark of their appreciation the Council presented Chloe with some flowers.
Chloe has now completed Year 13 at the Hucknall Sixth Form Centre with outstanding results. She intends to follow on from her Business course to have a career in Finance and Accounting. We shall miss her inspirational leadership and wish Chloe all the best for the future, I am sure she will be an amazing success!

Dragon's Den 8

On Friday 28th April a team of year 10 girls presented their idea for improving the emotional health and well-being of young people. The competition, now in its 8th year, seeks to encourage young people to find solutions to local problems and is run by Nottinghamshire County Council, Ashfield Community Safety Partnership and Mansfield Partnership Against Crime initiative with support from Nottinghamshire Police. Schools from the Ashfield area take part and present their ideas to a panel of esteemed judges. This year the panel included ex Holgate student and Ashfield councillor Nicole Ndiweni, Dan Howitt, Head of Research and Information from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and Jane Case from Young Minds.

Remembering Paul Sandford

Today we would like to pay tribute to Holgate Comprehensive School student Paul Sandford who 10 years ago lost his life on patrol in the Upper Gereshk Valley area of Helmand Province in Afghanistan.
Paul’s Dad, Terry is now planning an event to commemorate Paul on Saturday, June 10th 2017, with some of his former comrades from the 1st Battalion of the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters, as well as family and friends.
Although the details have yet to be confirmed, Terry hopes it will include a church service as well as a celebration at the Royal British Legion. For more, visit the Paul Sandford (Sandie) Facebook page.
