The Holgate Academy were delighted to compete in the annual Diverse Academies Games on Tuesday 9th July 2019, against other academies from the Trust.

Representatives from years 7, 8, 9 and 10 competed in track and field events in the morning, and in futsal, netball and basketball tournaments during the afternoon session. We arrived at Grantham Meres Leisure Centre and the event started with the year 9 and 10 athletes on the track while years 7 and 8 competed in field events. It was a fantastic day of sport and friendship with all of the academies cheering each other on, and really supporting their own representatives.

Holgate finished in 5th place, with the trophy going to East Leake Academy (who have now won the Games for the last three years.) All of the staff who accompanied our students to the event were impressed by not only their athleticism and talent in the sports, but also their behaviour and commitment.

Ambassadors from our student council also came to support the event and did a brilliant job at the finish line and helping with the scoring. Whilst we are incredibly proud of all of team Holgate, a special mention must go to those students who finished first in their individual events:

Dylan in the year 7/8 boys Shot Putt
Josh in the year 9/10 boys High Jump
Joe in the year 7/8 boys High Jump

And the runners in the track from Holgate who came first in the following events:
Year 9/10 boys 200m
Year 7/8 boys 200m
Year 7/8 boys 300m
Year 7/8 boys 800m
Year 9/10 boys 200m

Our futsal teams also won some matches and all of the outfield events massively boosted our very respectable score. Well done Team Holgate. Can’t wait for next year!
