Recently, our year 10 business students have been exploring ways to foster motivation, encourage teamwork, and promote leadership as part of their studies. One effective approach is to incorporate practical elements through team-building exercises and challenges.
With this in mind, we tasked our students with working in small groups to construct a tower of their choosing using only spaghetti and marshmallows. This simple yet effective exercise uses limited resources while encouraging creative thinking and problem-solving. The main objective was to collaborate and work towards a common goal: to build the tallest spaghetti tower possible.
We saw some very successful towers built using a variety of techniques. Some students took time to plan, while other groups jumped straight into the activity. Both approaches resulted in some impressive structures.
This was an excellent opportunity for students to see how the content they have been studying applies in real life. Students reflected on their performance and created plans for how they could improve in the future. A huge well done to all who took part—your teamwork and communication skills were outstanding throughout the task.
