On Wednesday 2 July, we were delighted to welcome our new students for an exciting three-day transition programme here at Holgate. The day kicked off with a warm introduction from our Principal, Mr Diamond, before students headed off in their new tutor groups.

Our students took part in a number of activities on their first day, including a visit to our science block, where they were introduced to the laboratories and had the opportunity to take part in an experiment involving the testing of acids and alkalis. They also participated in a range of other subjects throughout the day, including geography, food technology, and drama.

Their science journey continued into days two and three, where they carried out the flame test experiment. The purpose of this experiment is to demonstrate the variety of colours produced when different metals or salts are exposed to a flame. Students also took part in PE activities — the girls competed in the 100m and relay races, while the boys played rounders. The sun was shining, and it looked like all the students were enjoying themselves, with some healthy competition adding to the excitement!

All students were enthusiastic and adapted extremely well to their new environment over the course of the three days. We can’t wait for them to continue their Holgate journey when they join us in year 7. Well done, everyone — we look forward to seeing you again in September!
