On Sunday 9 November, a small number of our year 11 and sixth form students represented Holgate by attending the Hucknall Remembrance Day parade. This allowed them to join the community in honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and they concluded the parade by laying a wreath at the Cenotaph in Titchfield Park on behalf of the entire academy.

We then continued to honour these heroes on Tuesday 11 November, by hosting our own remembrance event, which took place in the academy quad. Representatives from each tutor group took part in the ceremony, where a two-minute silence was observed, and Mr Butterworth along with one of our year 10 students, Nathaniel, played The Last Post, paying tribute to those who lost their lives in conflict. The event was also live-streamed to the whole academy community.

Our Principal, Henry Diamond, commented, “As a school, we believe it is both important and our duty to educate young people about past conflicts and to remember those who gave their lives in service. We are incredibly proud of the respect, maturity, and sense of community our students showed during the Remembrance events. Their actions truly reflect the values we hold dear here at Holgate.”

Thank you to all our students who joined in with the remembrance events. You represented Holgate impeccably well, and everyone involved showed the respect and dedication the occasion deserves.

We will remember them.
