On Wednesday 21 January, we were delighted to once again welcome Discover VR to deliver another virtual reality experience for our Holgate Achievers. This special event was attended by students in years 7–10 who have demonstrated excellent behaviour and an exceptional attitude to learning across all their subjects during the last half-term.
Our students were divided into year groups and took part in bespoke sessions throughout the day. Each session began with an introduction on how to use the headsets, which included a shared group experience. Some groups visited space, while others explored a volcano.
Following this, students were able to select their own individual experiences. These included exciting options such as exploring the ocean and having a close encounter with a shark, embarking on a safari, travelling back in time to ancient Greece, and visiting the wonders of the world. Each session concluded with students having the opportunity to play games using controllers connected to their headsets.
All students thoroughly enjoyed their session and found the event highly educational, which was one of the main reasons for choosing this reward. Well done to all the students who were invited to attend. Our year 11 students, who have shown similar dedication, were also rewarded—though with a prize instead, due to the proximity of their mock exams.
