On Thursday 12 March, we recognised Young Carers Action Day by organising a futures workshop for our year 9 and 10 students. Young Carers Action Day is an annual campaign held in March and aims to highlight the challenges faced by young people who care for family members with illness, disability or mental health conditions.
The workshop began with Mrs Wilford delivering a presentation about the challenges young carers may face when applying for further education. This included statements from some of our current sixth form students who are also young carers. Our young carers then met with our Head of Sixth Form, Mr Brown, and were taken on a tour of our sixth form facilities here at Holgate. Our students saw this as a perfect opportunity to ask questions and get a feel for the facilities on offer.
Our students found the workshop incredibly worthwhile, and it was lovely to see their enthusiasm for their future pathways.
Finally, a big thank you to all our young carers for the amazing hard work and support you give to others. We look forward to seeing where your further education journey takes you.
