Curriculum intent

Design technology is taught across key stage 3 and each student will experience a block of time within different technology subjects. Students will have up to nine weeks on one area of technology before moving onto explore another. The areas that students will explore over the academic year include:

  • workshop – resistant materials
  • food and nutrition – cooking
  • textiles
  • photography
  • graphic communication

Aims of the subject

  • To develop skills and knowledge in the practical application of materials, techniques and processes experience in design technology
  • To create and produce outcomes with pride and confidence
  • To gain knowledge in nutrition and how to cook safely
  • To have the confidence to promote work through verbal, written and group presentations.

Key stage 4

We offer three courses at key stage 4 in design technology. We have introduced two new courses this year as interest has increased in graphic communication and resistant materials (design technology). Students have three lessons per week and have access to specialist rooms.
