Two year 13 students from Hucknall Sixth Form Centre have achieved distinctions for their outstanding classical performances in drama. They staged and performed Sophocles’ ‘Oedipus’ and Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ – two very challenging pieces.

Ellie and Susan performed to whole classes from year seven to ten; acting as brilliant role models for younger drama students. They demonstrated convincing character portrayal across a variety of roles and committed large amounts of text to memory.

Miss Holmes and Miss Burridge have worked with the students on their pieces since September as part of their Level 3 BTEC in Performing Arts.

“Both students worked incredibly hard to attain such a high standard on their classical performances. They have showed dedication, passion and motivation throughout the rehearsal process and live performances. I am so proud of both Ellie and Suzie, they are great role models for drama at sixth form, I am delighted with their results, it is certainly well deserved,” said Miss Holmes.

Suzie continued: “It has been a lot of hard-work and required a lot of dedication, but I am so happy with the final product and what we have achieved.”

The students will now begin their next unit of work, which involves them devising their own performance in response to a stimulus set by the exam board.
