Former Holgate teacher Mr Bob Donnison from Bestwood receives honours! Mr Donnison was awarded the British Empire Medal for over 50 years of service and has been “the one constant factor in the running of the South Notts Schools Football association,” helping thousands of school boys.

Bob Donnison started teaching PE in 1963 at The Holgate School and coached generations of children. He said: “It’s about enjoying yourself and playing the game in the right way – with respect.”

A spokesperson from Buckingham Palace said: “Without his drive and commitment, many of the opportunities they have had would not have happened”.

Former pupil Neil Heath when asked about Mr Donnison said he was a “local legend” to countless fans and players.

Congratulations from all at The Holgate Academy on being awarded a British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2018. Well deserved!
