One of our year eight students won a gold medal in the martial art of taekwondo, as part of the Great Britain under-14 male squad at the European Poomsae & Para Poomsae Championships 2023
The championships held in Innsbruck, Austria, at the weekend (24-26 November) saw Lucas (pictured below, in the centre) win in his age category, helping Team GB to medals success.
Lucas has participated in taekwondo for eight years and joined the Great Britain squad at the age of just eight years old. He trains at Hucknall’s Kang Han Martials Arts and Combat Academy under tutor Grandmaster Ian Lennox.
Lucas said: “It was a very fun trip. Getting to know all the new people from all over Europe was my favourite bit and getting to pelt snowballs at people.
“Team GB had an amazing competition with a few losing their voice from cheering so much. I look forward to what comes next year.”
He is now hoping to compete in the 2024 World Taekwondo Junior Championships next year.
