Why did you become a governor?
Since my daughter has been in full time education I have developed a greater appreciation and intrigue of what goes on within the school setting. After volunteering with the local Girl Guiding Units and with the local library over the last 15 years, this move feels natural for me personally as I continue to support my community and learn more about supporting secondary education.
How did you find out about the role?
Through Facebook. I have been aware of governor roles for many years but after the amazing start my daughter had with the Holgate Academy I decided this was a sign to take the leap.
What do you like about the role, and how do governors make a difference?
What I have really liked so far is how open and welcoming the other governors are and especially the schools leadership team. I was so impressed with the positivity and enthusiasm in my first meeting that it completely spurred me on to develop my role as a governor and to think about the huge amount of different ways I can get involved. The staff were happy to answer questions and to be held accountable when challenged. The training and support as a governor has been really comprehensive and easy to access. I can’t recommend this role enough.
