Governor name
Margaret Newcombe
Governor role
Appointed Governor
Why did you become a governor?
Until my retirement in July 2023, I had worked as a primary school teacher for over 35 years, including 4 years as a head teacher. I am passionate about improving the life chances for children and young people and believe that every child should receive the support they need to succeed, regardless of their starting point. I have always lived within the Ashfield area and became a governor so I can make a small contribution to support Holgate in promoting the best outcomes for students.
How did you find out about the role?
I heard about the vacancy whilst working at another Diverse Academy.
What do you like about the role, and how do governors make a difference?
The role of governor could be likened to that of a ‘critical friend’: providing support for the academy but also challenge where appropriate.
I am enjoying getting to know about life at Holgate (and secondary schools in general) but the most satisfying aspect of the role of governor is seeing the huge improvements being made by the academy.
