February has been a busy month for our year 12 and 13 students. We’ve held two separate workshops, hosted independently by Ashfield District Council and Ignite Futures.

The first workshop, GradBoost, was delivered by Ashfield District Council on 3 and 4 February. This valuable enrichment session gave our students an insight into the career opportunities available within the local area. They also had the chance to learn about the common stages of the apprenticeship and graduate recruitment process, express their own work motivations, skills, and strengths, and discuss how to stand out from the crowd with employers.

The second workshop was held on Monday, 10 February, and was available to students taking maths and physics in both year 12 and 13. This session was part of the Festival of Science and Curiosities and was hosted by Ignite Futures. The session was led by a mathematician from Sheffield Hallam University and included a talk about George Green, a Nottingham mathematical physicist whose family-owned Green’s Windmill in Sneinton.

Both enrichment sessions provided valuable knowledge and offered good insights into the topics being taught. Feedback from students suggested that the first session helped them prepare for future opportunities, while the second session was an ideal opportunity to broaden their knowledge of both maths and physics through practical elements.
