We were delighted to host our Holgate Achievers event, which took place in Hillcrest Hall. This special event was attended by students in years 7–10 who have demonstrated excellent behaviour and an exceptional attitude to learning across all their subjects during the last half-term.
Students began the day as one large group, where they were introduced to Jay Rollins from Circus Sensible. Jay is an experienced circus performer who has worked at various high-profile events, including the afterparty for one of the Harry Potter films, and regularly performs at Manchester United player events. The students were then divided into year groups, and each attended a bespoke session hosted by Jay.
Our students were captivated from the start and throughout their session. After a quick demonstration, they were able to try a variety of circus tricks, including bean bag juggling, plate spinning, and contact juggling. Assistant SENDCO and Inclusion Lead, Sarah McLaughlin, said, ‘I can’t believe how quickly the students picked up the skills they were shown. They really demonstrated why they are Holgate achievers.’

Feedback from our students was extremely positive, with comments such as ‘I really enjoyed doing the juggling rings’ and ‘It’s really nice how we get rewarded for being good’.
A huge congratulations to everyone who attended. It was a fantastic event, and it was lovely to be able to reward those students who have demonstrated excellent behaviour and attitude toward learning.
