Our year 11s recently saw a performance of seasonal classic A Christmas Carol at the Nottingham Playhouse – featuring one of their fellow students.
The production stars Keith Allen in the title role of ‘Ebenezer Scrooge’ but also has year 8 Holgate Academy student Charlie playing ‘Edwin Cratchit’, one of the children of Scrooge’s downtrodden clerk ‘Bob Cratchit’ in Charles Dickens’ story.
Charlie said: “I’m really proud to be performing again in A Christmas Carol at the Playhouse this year. This is the second time I’ve been in it, having done so two years ago.”
He added: “The run of shows at the Playhouse and the rehearsals leading up to it have been really tiring, especially as I juggle schoolwork with the late-night finishing of some of the performances.
“Holgate, and in particular Mr Best and Mr Rodgers, have been hugely supportive of my acting and I can’t thank them enough.”
Charlie’s father, Mark, said they were “beyond proud of him” in juggling his acting and schoolwork.

Commenting on the year 11 students’ trip to the performance, English teacher Miss Firman said: “All students were impeccably behaved and displayed fantastic manners, determination and teamwork.
“We hope that everyone enjoyed the performance as much as we all did and we really hope that this will support with future literature exams.”
