Students at The Holgate Academy in Hucknall, part of the Diverse Academies Learning Partnership, were celebrating this morning as they received their A Level results.

The hard work and dedication of students paid off with 11% of the students achieving the top grades of A*- A grades and overall a third gaining A*-B grades, an increase from last year. The year 13 students were also the first to study the more demanding vocational courses, with 35% achieving a Distinction* or Distinction.

These positive results have enabled Holgate students to progress onto a variety of university courses and apprenticeships, as well as into employment.

Successes included Megan Kirk who secured a Distinction* in health and social care, B in biology and B in psychology and will be off to Sheffield Hallam University to study psychology. Megan said: “I’m so delighted with my results and can’t wait to take up my place at Sheffield Hallam. All the hard work certainly paid off!”

Charlotte Scott got the results she needed for a place at Lincoln University to study international relations and politics. Charlotte said: “I got an A* and three B’s and am just so happy with my results. It’s been hard work but this will hopefully set me up for a great future and career. I’m thankful for my teachers for their support in helping me get this far.

Jack Hemmings will also be heading to Lincoln University after securing a Distinction in business, B in history, C in English language and A in the EPQ. “I’m both relieved and delighted to get these results,” he said.  “It’s been hard work but is worth every second when it takes you where you want to go. I’m really looking forward to starting at university.”

Chair of governors Kate Turner said: “It is fantastic to see lots of Holgate students doing so well at our Hucknall Sixth Form Centre, equally as pleasing to see is so many students that have applied to university have secured their placement. Well done to all of our students – I wish them all the luck for their future aspirations!”

The Holgate Academy Principal, Sue Forsey commented: “It has been another successful year for the Holgate sixth form students. This is a hugely important day for all our young people and recognition of all their hard work. Congratulations to them – the results show that it has all been worth the effort and I’m extremely proud of our students.”

Student numbers at Hucknall Sixth Form Centre are growing year-on-year, with the centre having an excellent reputation in the Hucknall community and beyond.
