A love of literature is flourishing with key stage three students at The Holgate Academy, as years 7, 8 and 9 students engage eagerly in a English literature homework initiative launched by Miss Smith.
The homework grid, tailored for each year group, allows students to engage with some of the most iconic texts in literary history—The Tempest for year 7, Macbeth for year 8, and Of Mice and Men for year 9. Each grid features a variety of activities, with students choosing tasks that inspire them most. From writing character diaries to creating artwork or crafting persuasive speeches, the options are diverse, encouraging students to explore the texts in dynamic and meaningful ways.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there. Each activity is assigned points, and students can submit as much homework as they like to accumulate points. Their hard work is celebrated every half term with a range of certificates—bronze, silver, gold, platinum, and star. The system not only fosters a love for literature but also empowers students to take control of their learning, helping them build key skills and confidence along the way.
We are incredibly proud of our students’ efforts and look forward to seeing them continue to thrive as they unlock new levels of achievement through this engaging and enriching homework challenge.

Keep up the fantastic work, key stage three—you are lighting the way for future literary stars!
