On Wednesday 12th June 30 students (Year 8-10) and 3 members of staff made their way down to London for a musical theatre experience day. Students arrived in Covent Garden and went to Pineapple Dance Studios, where they met the owner Debbie Moore and then took part in a musical theatre workshop taken by a member of the ‘Wicked!’ ensemble cast. She taught them the choreography of one of the scenes where Elphaba and Glinda go to the Emerald City. Students threw themselves into learning the choreography and enjoyed being taught by a professional performer.
“To have the experience of being taught by a professional performer in London, and then being able to ask her questions about the industry and how she auditioned and rehearsed was amazing” Ellie, Year 9.
After the workshop we made our way to the other side of London to the Apollo Victoria theatre to see the matinee performance of ‘Wicked!’. The show was amazing, from the acting/singing and music to the set design and costumes.
“The theatre was massive! The show was the best thing I have ever seen” Kieran, Year 9.
After the show we made our long way back to Nottingham. It was a long day, but the students (who were impeccably behaved) thoroughly enjoyed it “I would go again and recommend it to other people” Callum, Year 9.
