On Thursday 25 September, it was National Manufacturing Day. This unique day highlights the crucial role of UK manufacturing in the economy and in communities, and it usually presents an opportunity for manufacturers to open their doors to students, showcasing the employment prospects available within this sector.

On this special day, a small number of our year 10 students were fortunate enough to be invited to visit ITP Aero UK. ITP Aero UK is a large aeronautical engine company with a highly skilled team of design and manufacturing engineers based at their site in Hucknall. They welcomed our students for a behind-the-scenes tour and a chance to get stuck into some STEM-based challenges.

Our students took part in a number of exciting activities, ranging from building spaghetti and marshmallow towers, to testing paper aeroplanes (to see which ones travelled the furthest), and assembling model engines. All of these activities required teamwork and tested our students’ technical skills.

A huge thank you to ITP Aero UK for allowing us to bring a group of our year 10 students. They had a fabulous time, and the visit truly showcased the amazing opportunities available within the STEM industry.
