It’s been a busy and very positive week at the Academy with a major success for one of our football teams, the launch of a brand new sport in our extra-curricular timetable and the ongoing selection of prefects from a substantial and strong field of applicants.

Starting with football success, a very determined year 9 team took part in an inter-school tournament playing against 7 other schools.  Managed by Mr Page and supported by Mr Needham, the students had trained hard, consistently turning up to training sessions after school, and were very much focused on the win.  Their performance was exceptional and, despite playing against some equally good teams, they finished in 1st place.  This takes them through to the tournament finals in March where we’re sure they’ll do the Academy proud.  Come on Holgate!

This week has seen the launch of a new after school club for year 9 and 10 students for a brand new, hot-off-the-press sport created by former Manchester United and Barcelona defender Gerard Pique.  Entitled Kings League, it is a quirky take on football with a very unusual set of rules and, as far as we know, we are the first school to enable students to give this a go. Those who took part in the first session this week loved it, and we expect it to be very popular!

Ably supported and mentored by Miss McLaughlin, our prefects play a vital role in school life at Holgate and we were very impressed with the number who put themselves forward to undertake these duties.  The role comes with lots of responsibility, and the fact that so many of our students want to support their Academy in this way makes me incredibly proud.

We are Holgate!
