Day three brought a delightful blend of sweetness, cinematic immersion, and deep reflection as our students continued to explore the beauty and history of Normandy.
German Military Cemetery
Our first stop of the day was the German Military Cemetery, offering a space for respectful contemplation and an opportunity to learn about the shared impact of conflict across nations.
Caramels d’Isigny
The morning continued on a delicious note with a guided tour of the famous Caramels d’Isigny factory. Students were fascinated by the process—from the bubbling pots of sugar and butter to the hand-wrapping of each caramel. A detailed display showcased the craftsmanship and tradition behind one of Normandy’s most beloved treats. And the cherry on top? Each student received a bag of caramels to enjoy—cue lots of smiles and sticky fingers!
D-Day Exploration in Arromanches
The afternoon shifted to reflection as we delved into Normandy’s World War Two legacy. At the Arromanches 360° Cinema, students experienced a powerful panoramic film depicting the D-Day landings and the Allied efforts. The imagery and soundscapes brought history to life in a vivid, moving way.
From a vantage point overlooking the landing beach, students viewed the remnants of the artificial Mulberry Harbour—an engineering marvel that played a crucial role in the success of the landings.
Evening relaxation and activities
Back at our accommodation, students enjoyed a hearty evening meal followed by fun activities. Laughter, games, dancing, a disco, and shared memories with the younger French pupils staying with us helped the group wind down after a full and inspiring day.
From caramel tastings to cinematic history, today reminded us all of Normandy’s rich cultural layers—and how our students continue to explore them with curiosity and respect.
