Why study Level 3 digital media?

Digital media is designed to build on your ICT knowledge and skills to support a continuation of your studies or career in creative digital arts. The course will develop understanding through topics such as media products and audience, production and planning, and the creation of a product.

The practical element of the course gives you the opportunity to develop a product, starting from identifying the target audience, to legalities associated with product development, and the creation and deployment of the product. In previous years, some students have extended their studies to focus on specific areas such as TV production, media scripting, and marketing a product.

Media products and audiencesFocuses on the theoretical exploration of media types and audiences, including how media products are developed. You’ll learn how to maximize a product’s appeal to a specific audience by understanding its development stages.
Pre-production and planningCovers standard practices in developing different types of media products. Each type requires unique planning considerations, and this unit introduces the planning techniques necessary to create any media product.
Create a media productAfter researching planning procedures and understanding legal and ethical considerations, you’ll plan, design, pitch, and produce a media product aimed at a specific audience and purpose.

Two additional units are taken as options, together with three units that will be decided when groups are formed in September. Two of the following must be taken:
