On Wednesday 30 April, we were delighted to host another Holgate Achievers event. This time, our students were treated to a virtual reality (VR) experience.

The event was hosted by a company called Discover VR, which provides virtual reality experiences for schools, offering immersive workshops and tours designed to reward students while enhancing their curriculum.

Our students were divided by year group and attended small, bespoke sessions throughout the day. Each session began with an introduction on how to use the headsets, followed by a group experience that included exploring a tropical rainforest and taking a tour into space. Students were then given the opportunity to choose their own experiences, which included a wide range of options—from exploring ancient Egypt to a shark encounter. Another popular choice was exploring inside the human body.

This special event was attended by students in years 7–10 who have demonstrated excellent behaviour and an exceptional attitude to learning across all their subjects during the last half-term. Our year 11 students, who have shown similar dedication, were also rewarded—though with a prize instead, due to the proximity of their exams.

Our students were well-behaved and fully engaged from the start and throughout each of the sessions. Assistant SENDCO and Inclusion Lead, Sarah McLaughlin, said: “We wanted to reward our students with something fun and interactive, but also educational—and this seemed like the perfect option.”

Well done to all of our Holgate Achievers. We hope you enjoyed your reward!
