On Friday 26 September, a small number of year 7 and 8 students took part in our spelling bee competition, which marked the first event in our new inter-form competition. The purpose of this initiative is to foster teamwork, build stronger relationships, and encourage a positive school community through healthy competition.

Over the past two weeks, tutor groups in years 7 and 8 have been working on strategies to recall 100 different words in preparation for Friday’s event. Each tutor group selected four ambassadors who led the preparation and chose the teams.

On the day of the competition, each tutor group put forward three competitors to face off in the spelling challenge. Each student was given 10 random words from the list of 100. The scores from all three competitors were combined to determine the winning form for each year group. In total, 51 students competed, and the results were very close!

The winning form in year 8 correctly spelled 29 out of 30 words — well done to Mrs Stanway’s form! Meanwhile, in year 7, two forms tied for first place after both correctly spelling 28 out of 30 words — congratulations to Mrs Draper’s and Miss Terrey’s forms!

This was the first of many competitions that will take place throughout the year, culminating in the end-of-year sports day in the summer. The next event will be pumpkin carving, just before the October half term.

A huge thank you to all our students who took part. We look forward to the next inter-form competition!
