On Friday 8 May, our year 8 netball team travelled to Nottingham Emmanuel School in West Bridgford to compete in the E.ON Next Netball Festival. With glorious sunshine throughout the afternoon, the team was excited to enjoy a fantastic day of competitive netball.
15 teams took part in the age-group competition, with Holgate placed in Pool B. After a warm-up session expertly led by team captains Maddie and Sienna, the girls began a round-robin schedule of seven matches.
The team demonstrated the benefits of their hard work and commitment in training, producing a series of impressive performances to win every game. Throughout the tournament, the players showed determination, teamwork and resilience, alongside exceptional individual skill and superb team spirit.
Holgate’s results were:

- Holgate 7–1 Farnborough Spencer Academy
- Holgate 8–0 East Leake Academy
- Holgate 11–0 Djanogly City Academy
- Holgate 14–6 Bulwell Academy
- Holgate 9–3 Carlton le Willows Academy
- Holgate 7–3 Nottingham Emmanuel School
By the end of the competition, Holgate had secured an impressive seven wins from seven matches, earning first place overall and the title of festival champions.
The girls were a credit to both themselves and the school throughout the event and should be incredibly proud of their achievement.
As well as enjoying success on the court, the team was delighted to meet players from the Nottingham Forest Netball team, taking the opportunity to have photographs with them and gain inspiration from elite athletes.
A special thank you goes to the parents who attended the festival to support and cheer on the team. Their encouragement helped make the day even more memorable.
