We are thrilled to announce the upcoming opening of our sixth form centre, launching in September 2025. This dedicated and bespoke facility will provide an inspiring space for sixth form students to flourish academically and socially while benefiting from our wider academy resources.

The sixth form centre will be made up of several small and large interchangeable spaces for group or quiet study, meetings and lessons.  The centre also comes with its own dedicated IT suite and kitchen area.

Let’s build it together

This new centre is more than a sixth form—it’s a space for students by students. Holgate is proud to work in partnership with its students to shape their academy and sixth form with our philosophy, ‘let’s build it together’.

Current year 11 and 12 students at The Holgate Academy are invited to join the focus group to consult on the final look and feel of the sixth form centre. From the wall design and colour choices to the final furnishings, we are committed to ensuring this new exciting space is welcoming, productive and inspiring.

Application deadline

We are still accepting applications into our sixth form for September 2025. Don’t miss your chance to join us on this exciting next step. Applications close on 8 December. Visit our how to apply page to find out more.

Your questions answered

The new sixth form centre will be in the current student services block, situated between the academy’s main Hillcrest and Nabbs buildings.

Holgate is proud to work with students on ‘let’s build it together’. We invite students to have their say and input in how the space will serve them to make it a welcoming and productive learning environment. We’ll work with a student focus group on the final look and feel of the centre. Do get in touch with Mr Brown to express your interest in being involved.

Lessons will be held in a mix of dedicated post 16 spaces within the new building and specialist classrooms in the academy. For example, subjects like photography and art will make use of bespoke facilities in existing faculty areas.

We will run regular minibus routes between Holgate and NCEA sites. This ensures students taking extended offer subjects can attend lessons conveniently.

Plans for a transition day and the building’s readiness during that time are yet to be finalised. We’ll share more details as they become available.

To ensure safeguarding and clear identification, all post 16 students will be required to wear identifiable lanyards.

Details on start and completion dates are still to be confirmed. Ensure to check our website and social channels for updates.

Students wishing to apply for a sixth form place at The Holghate Academy can do so online on our how to apply page.
