As part of the ongoing Young Carers Programme, a group of Holgate students were recently selected to participate in the annual Red Cross first aid course. The session covered essential life-saving techniques, including CPR, defibrillator use and responses to choking hazards for both adults and infants.

Students not only watched demonstrations but also practiced these critical skills using resuscitation dolls, giving them hands-on experience in responding to real life emergencies.

In addition to the in-person training, the Red Cross highlighted the importance of using their first aid app to keep skills updated. They also recommended the “what3words” app, which can help emergency services locate individuals quickly in the event of an emergency.

The course provided students with invaluable skills, empowering them to make a real difference in critical situations.
