On Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 November 2024, many of our art, photography and psychology sixth form students embarked on an exciting trip to London to enrich their studies and experience first-hand some of the wonderful attractions that London has to offer. To get the very best out of the trip, students spent time divided into groups to ensure that the trip was tailored to each students’ studies.

Our psychology students started off in The Francis Crick Institute looking at the Hello Brain! exhibition. Students then visited Wellcome Collection – a museum and library exploring health and human experience, before stopping at The Natural History Museum, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The other group visited the Houses of Parliament where they met their local MP. The visit included a tour around the House of Commons and learning of the traditions that are still adhered to today – such as it being illegal to die in Westminster Hall.

Students also had a sneak peek into the House of Lords as they were preparing for a sitting that day. The students sat silently as the commons debated live and they were then encouraged to create their own political party and win the votes with policies based on education, environmental and social issues.

Throughout the two days, our students walked nearly 20 miles around London, taking photographs and enjoying city life. The students visited more attractions such as Tate Britain, Tate Modern and the National Portrait Gallery. City landmarks enjoyed included the London Eye, Westminster, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace and Covent Garden.

Holgate sixth form were positive, enthusiastic and creative throughout the whole trip. Photography by students Jake and Finlay.
