As part of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations at Holgate, our senior prefect team coordinated and lead the collection of the donations for our local food bank. The Under One Roof Food Bank is a Hucknall based charity that serves the community in which Holgate Academy is based and is one that is close to our heart.
We decided to have a non-uniform day to help raise money and encourage students to bring in donations. Students were given the choice of two charities, Under One Roof which reflects the concern our students feel about the rising cost of living and the impact that has on our community and a second one, UNICEF where students could donate a £1 to help support Ukrainian refugee families.
As usual, Holgate staff and students demonstrated immense generosity and £200 was raised to support the refugees and a significant amount of food was donated for the food bank. Mrs McLaughlin who manages the prefects said she was “impressed by the leadership skills of the senior prefects and the teamwork of the entire prefect team in coordinating the collection across the school”
