Last term, we were delighted to once again launch the £1 Challenge to our year 8 students. This exciting challenge is designed to promote valuable enterprise skills such as money management, creativity, and strategy, while also providing an opportunity to engage with the local community.
Our students worked in groups throughout March and were each given £1 to get them started. They collaborated, utilising their skills and knowledge, to explore ways to achieve their end goal: making the most profit and delivering the most successful business venture.
The winning tutor group raised nearly half of the total amount, with a gross total of £338.59 raised by Miss Stanway’s form – very well done to them. They began their challenge by spending their money on photocopying to produce sponsor sheets and completing a sponsored run, which raised their spendable cash. They then invested this money in stock to resell.
The total amount made by the year 8 group was £870.08, which meant they recouped the £218 initially invested, giving a profit of £652.08. This amount will be halved, with half going to a charity chosen by the winning tutor group. The other half will be passed to the student forum to spend on equipment and resources for social time and enrichment sessions, to be decided by the students.
At the end of the challenge, our year 8 students were asked to present their results and successes. These were judged by a panel, and the winning presenters were Poppy and Evie, who spoke confidently and reflected on the ups and downs of the challenge. Well done to Poppy and Evie, who were awarded sweet treats for their form group.
The number of entrepreneurial students this year has been incredible, with many who have shone over the course of the project. A huge well done to everyone who engaged in the challenge so positively.
