Why work at The Holgate Academy?
Our personalised approach and rich curricular offer make Holgate a very special and positive place to learn and work. Don’t just take our word for it—see below a number of testimonials from Holgate employees.
“I have worked at The Holgate Academy for 22 years as a teacher, STEM coordinator and currently acting assistant head of faculty. I have been fortunate enough to work in a progressive and forward-thinking science faculty where I have been able to develop my mentoring, teaching and leadership skills.
Being able to develop and improve as a teacher has always been a driving force for me, and The Holgate Academy provides an excellent CPD programme to enable me to progress and develop.
Our students are the reason that I aim to try and do my very best as a teacher every day. We have some amazing students here at Holgate. The science faculty endeavour to show students that we care about them and take the time to build positive relationships with students, which in turn helps to promote academic growth.
One of the very best things about our science faculty is the relationships we have developed with each other. I have made lifelong friends here and we are all extremely supportive of one another. Team members are enthusiastic and knowledgeable, approaching our work with diligence and a sense of humour. Science leaders are supportive and mindful of workload, and we work collaboratively to design lessons to deliver the curriculum. New staff joining the faculty are warmly welcomed and supported in any way we can.”

“Being both a teacher and the head of PE at The Holgate Academy has been a very fulfilling role that has allowed me to develop my skills as a leader, mentor and teacher. As a department, we are extremely supportive of one another and work hard as a team to provide a positive environment and experience for all our students, both in lessons and during extra-curricular activities.
We offer a wide range of extra-curricular sports after school, run by both members of the PE department and other academy staff, highlighting the commitment everyone has to providing students with as many opportunities as possible.
The PE department is very proud of the relationships developed with students at Holgate and feels honoured that students are enthusiastic about extending their learning with us after school and taking up the opportunities we offer.”

“I joined The Holgate Academy as an assistant head of faculty with responsibility for careers and personal development, later becoming head of faculty and careers leader. I undertook careers leader training and completed the Diploma in Careers Guidance through the NTU MA programme, enabling me to provide personal careers guidance that meets Gatsby requirements.
The Holgate Academy has offered me excellent opportunities to develop both my teaching and leadership, supported by a strong commitment to continuing professional development and collaboration with colleagues across the trust.”
