I attended The Holgate Academy from 2015 to 2020. One of my favourite subjects was childcare. After studying this, I realised it was the career path I wanted to pursue.
Unfortunately, my time at Holgate ended earlier than expected when the UK went into lockdown due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Once restrictions were lifted, I attended The Hucknall Sixth Form Centre for a short time and began my Level 3 in Childcare.
I then left HSFC to start my Level 3 childcare apprenticeship at The Orange Tree Day Nursery in Hucknall. I enjoyed working with the children and getting to know them, but I realised that this wasn’t the career I wanted to continue pursuing. After gaining a Distinction grade in Level 3 childcare and passing my Level 2 functional skills in maths, I decided it was time for a career change.
I wasn’t out of work for long, but at the time, it felt like forever. I was fortunate to get a festive colleague role at Hucknall Tesco Extra, which I started on 19 October 2022. Although the position was temporary initially, it was better than nothing. I worked hard every day and was lucky enough to be offered a permanent position at the end of the festive period, which made me very happy!
During my time at Tesco, I also completed a Level 2 apprenticeship in retail, achieving a Distinction grade. I really enjoyed completing this apprenticeship.
I’ve been working at Tesco for just over three years now and have been trained in almost every department. I still really enjoy it and am glad I made the move! Since joining Tesco, I’ve also gained many friends of varying ages.
Tesco is a great career option for school leavers, as we provide the stronger starts campaign and apprenticeships, along with many other opportunities.
