Charlotte Scott

I attended The Holgate Academy from 2011 to 2016 and the Hucknall Sixth Form Centre (HSFC) from 2016 to 2018. Having lived in Hucknall for most of my life, I followed in the footsteps of many family members by attending Holgate.

My time at Holgate was fantastic, and I built lasting relationships with people I still cherish today—some of whom are now my colleagues! I successfully passed all my exams, thanks to the incredible support from the staff. I am especially grateful to Mr Lees, my head of house, who worked closely with my family and me to ensure I felt supported throughout.

The CERN trip in year 10 gave me an excellent opportunity to see the world. It was my first trip outside of the UK without family, and the tour of the UN building is what sparked my love of international politics.

My experience in sixth form was equally positive. The staff were excellent and helped me achieve good results, enabling me to secure a place at university. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Miss Elliot and Mrs Clayton for their dedication and hard work during my time at sixth form. I’m really excited to see the sixth form return to the Holgate site in the newly refurbished block.

I achieved three Bs in my A-levels in English literature, psychology, and sociology. Following this, I attended the University of Lincoln, where I completed a BSc in Politics and International Relations.

I worked at Home Bargains in Hucknall from the age of 17 until late December 2024, shortly after I turned 24. I started working there while attending sixth form and continued throughout university and the pandemic. I loved my retail job and was sad to leave, but a new opportunity arose.

In early December 2023, I had a chance encounter with Louise Shaw, who informed me of a job opening at The Holgate Academy that she thought would be perfect for me. I applied and was invited for an interview.

Returning to Holgate as an adult felt strange at first—especially being interviewed by Mr Diamond, now the principal, and Mr Ellis, my former PE teacher. I was thrilled to secure the job and now hold the position of assistant head of year at The Holgate Academy. Every day brings new challenges, but I enjoy it immensely.

I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of Holgate and its staff—both as a student and now as a staff member. My journey has come full circle, and I am all the better for it!
