I attended The Holgate Academy from 1999–2004. Like many young people, I didn’t have everything figured out at school. I wasn’t particularly academic at the time and wasn’t sure what direction I wanted to take in life. However, with the encouragement of several supportive teachers, I found the focus I needed when it mattered most and left with nine GCSEs at grades A–C.
After Holgate, I spent a year at West Nottinghamshire College before qualifying as a gym instructor and beginning my career in the fitness industry. This led to a range of roles, including management positions within gyms and later at universities.

In my mid-20s, I decided to challenge myself further and invest in my education while continuing to work full time. Through distance learning, I completed NVQs, an HPD and ultimately a BA in Sports Management with Nottingham Trent University, achieving a First-Class degree — something I’m incredibly proud of, especially as studying hadn’t always come naturally to me.
I’ve now enjoyed an 18-year career in sport, working in inspiring environments alongside talented professionals. This has included time at the renowned SportPark in Loughborough and my current role at the Football Foundation, based at Wembley Stadium, where I work closely with the FA, Premier League and Government. A definite highlight has been scoring a goal on the iconic Wembley pitch.
Looking back, my biggest lesson is the importance of believing in yourself and recognising your potential early on. My journey shows that it’s never too late to apply yourself, take opportunities and achieve great things.
