My time at The Holgate Academy was a formative experience that instilled in me a lifelong love of learning. While I may not have always been the model student, I was fortunate to have teachers like Mr Gudgeon, who recognised my potential and inspired me to succeed in maths.
After graduating from Holgate, I pursued a degree in Mathematics at De Montfort University. This led to a fulfilling career in both the public and private sectors, where I applied my statistical expertise in various roles, including producing GDP figures for the government and developing credit scoring models for financial institutions.

One company I worked with was O2, where I was commissioned to consolidate, analyse, and report on their entire online client database, as well as produce statistical models to improve profitability. The statistical model used all customer information, including mobile phone usage, and resulted in a segmentation and churn model. When O2 introduced the model, they made an additional £54 million in the first year. As a result, I won the 2004 Direct Marketing Award.
My passion for education ultimately led me to return to my roots and pursue a career as a maths teacher. I am eager to share my knowledge and experience with the next generation of students, helping them discover the joy of learning and the power of mathematics.
