Shane Porter

I attended The Holgate Academy from 2006 to 2013, including two years in sixth form. My time in sixth form stands out as a particular highlight. The support I received outside the classroom, especially during the university application process, was invaluable in shaping my next steps after Holgate. Studying a levels in history, maths, physics, and business studies also gave me the chance to strengthen my analytical and critical thinking skills in preparation for university.

After taking a gap year to work and save money, I went on to study management at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where I was the recipient of a scholarship from Sir Stelios. Living in London was a formative experience, exposing me to incredible diversity and placing me at the heart of business.

I graduated from LSE with First-Class Honours in 2017 before joining Bain & Company as an associate consultant in the London office. In this role, I worked with leading businesses to address some of their most complex challenges — from redesigning organisational structures to developing pricing strategies. I also spent six months in Bain’s pro bono social impact practice, where I helped charities refine their strategies and growth plans, and later completed a six-month transfer to the New York office.

After four years in London, I moved to the United States to pursue an MBA at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, graduating in 2023. During my MBA, I completed an internship with REDF, a venture philanthropy organisation, where I supported a social enterprise in Pittsburgh that provides culinary training to long-term unemployed individuals. I also participated in a semester exchange at London Business School.

Upon graduating, I travelled across Asia for three months before rejoining Bain in Atlanta, where I now work as a senior manager. In this role, I lead teams of consultants to deliver lasting impact for our clients.
