Key stage 3

Students have access to a specialist music room and practise rooms along with equipment. We offer extra-curricular activities such as the school choir and peripatetic sessions that can be booked through school.

Music is vital in schools — it opens young minds to different aesthetics and cultures. Music also helps young people connect and focus differently as it activates a different part of the brain.

We aim to:

  • build confidence in students’ ability to perform, listen and evaluate music
  • introduce students to many different and varied musical artists, styles and cultures
  • gain confidence in students using their voices
  • build skills, knowledge and understanding of how to compose and create sounds using various instruments
  • learn and understand how music is created and the various components needed such as pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture and structure

Key stage 4

Our BTEC music course will be of interest to students who have a love of music, have enjoyed the subject at key stage 3, can play an instrument and/or sing and is interested in the music industry.
