Physical education (PE) is delivered to all students as part of the core curriculum. Students have two lessons of practical PE per week.
The subject aims to teach the students to use a range of tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in direct competition through team and individual games, develop their technique and improve their performance in competitive sports and analyse their performances compared to previous ones, demonstrating improvement with the hope of achieving their personal best.
Physical education aims to ensure that all students:
- develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
- are physically active for sustained periods of time
- engage in competitive sports and activities
- lead healthy, active lives
Students study the same activities in years 7, 8 and 9 as this gives them the opportunity to show a greater level of progression in their tactical awareness, knowledge of the rules and skill level in each of the activities.
